GREAT HARWOODMapsFound with a presentment concerning a riot in Thromynge More Lane in Great Harwood, on 30 May 1603, between the servants of Robert Hesketh and Christofer Cunliffe. Transcription of the text has been added as the original writing is impossible to decipher at the size shown.
In 1763 a detailed map was produced showing the Hesketh lands in Great Harwood it also shows Nowell and Assheton Curzon lands where they lie within the Hesketh holding. The original is now "lost" but fortunately Richard Trappes-Lomax made a copy in the early twentieth century. Nowell properties of Netherton have been added to this map using plans created by Richard Trappes-Lomax from family records and further details added from later sales plans of former Nowell lands.
Originating in neighbouring Rishton Cunliffes were living in Great Harwood from at least the late 16th century. Using the 1763 map, above, this shows lands in Great Harwood leased by branches of the Cunliffe family in the 18th century.
