GREAT HARWOOD

Dean Clough Reservoir

Less than 30 minutes walk from the town centre, and with car parking even closer, is Dean Clough, one of my favourite spots in the area, a small valley occupied by a small brook. In 1762 the Lords of the Manor were allowed to enclose Harwood Moor and farms were established but in 1879 the stream was dammed forming reservoirs at the western end to provide water for Great Harwood. The loss of land and farming restrictions meant some of the farms established for 100 years were abandoned.
From the southeastern watershed looking across to Pendle.
Scotland ? Lake District ?
It could be Scotland or the Lake District but isn't.

And as it was in February 1996 after the drought of 1995.

Sometimes the clouds are lower.
Cloudy below
The Ribble Valley is under the cloud.
Sometimes very low
No view, no sheep
but when the mist condenses you get sheep and a view.View and sheep
The south eastern outflow
Now you see the water
which isn't always needed
Now you don't

Line of overflow and stream
but when it is the water flows back to the stream in the line of trees.
