| The Inventory of John Taylor of Great Harwood 1674 (Lancashire Record Office WCW/Taylor, John 1674) An Inventory of all the goodes chattels
late belongine to John Taylor of Great Harwood deceased prised the 23th
of July 1674 by these men William Baron William Boulton Robert Baron and
Robert Calvart.
John owned very little husbandry materials or livestock and no looms, although there was a spinning wheel, so his main income was probably from another source. From the unusual amount of tables, forms, chairs, stools and six cushions in a household with few other luxuries, and the presence of a 'mash tubb' it is clear that John was running an alehouse. This is confirmed by the inventory of John Mercer in 1669, which lists 9 shillings owing to John Taylor for funeral expenses. It is not clear from this inventory where John's alehouse was. |
