I didn't intend to take part in historical research myself, I was quite happy to let others do that. I had no objection to hosting new findings but I reasoned that there wouldn't be any because the town has been gone over with fine toothed combs by some excellent local historians.
I should have done some research before reaching that conclusion.
So here is what I've been dragged into so far:
Assent to the vesting in the Gt Harwood U.D.C.of Churchfield House.
I was sent documents relating to Milton Haydock's gift of the house and gardens to the town but without a plan. Fortunately we were given access to old, detailed maps that provided a more than adequate survey of the plots.
Brick Kiln, or is it ?
This site is covered by Michael Rothwell in "Industrial Heritage" but have we found more ?
Great Harwood in 1379, The list of Poll Tax payers of that year and what it can tell us.
Old Homesteads Notes on what we've turned up so far about the older buildings in and around the town. Not much yet.

Lease of 1854
This included the plan of a parcel of land and farm buildings at the eastern end of town and showed features which I, at least, knew nothing about. Kicking and screaming "I don't do research" I was led on a trail of discovery by Barabara Youds which culminated in a display at Great Harwood Library charting the use and development of the land from the earliest times of the town to the present day. |
The Great Harwood Appreciation Society Tenth Anniversary
A celebration of what the Appreciation Society has to offer; not just pleasant chats and remenicences. |
