GREAT HARWOOD

Railway

The Railway reached Great Harwood, a little late, in 1877 and the last scheduled train left in November 1957. Eventually the track was ripped up in the 1960s.

Path and station site

The cutting in which it ran was gradually filled in to make a vehicle free corridor along the south side of the town.

At the eastern end is a new industrial park where the yards and station used to be and beyond that the line has become a nature trail.

Disappearing into the distance
At the western end the pathway runs out over Tottleworth railway bridge into the countryside and on to Cut Lane, Rishton.
