In February 2005 the lease for Birches farm was deposited on permanent loan with the Lancashire Record Office, where it will be preserved in a controlled environment and made available for research and study to any interested person.

It was received by conservator Sue Tobbutt, who, not knowing the history of the acquisition of the lease was fascinated by the story. As the conservator responsible for much of the John Mercer collection on deposit at the LRO she was delighted to find that two of the lessees were sons of John Mercer.

There are plans to tie in our document with the John Mercer collection.
