We should have been visiting our friend Juanita at Mossburn in Scotland for a couple of days then coming back to the west coast of Cumbria because 1) we'd never been here and 2) I should have been here because of the area's strong Rugby League links. Juanita had to give back word because a horse society had been let down so had asked her to host an equine working week when we should have been there, don't know if it was the people or equines being worked. So, since the weekend had already been booked ..............................

The forecast wasn't good and despite getting our summer completely wrong, "BBQ SUMMER" ? WHAT SUMMER?, today the weathermen were spot on. With this in mind we only set off about 2pm since it didn't seem that we'd be making any of the possible stops on the way. It wasn't too bad in Wigan but as we headed north we could see the lowering clouds ahead and we finally hit the rain just north of Lancaster. An uneventful though at times big-dipper-like journey to Ravenglass took us about 2 hours 30 mins with heavy rain for the last 90 mins.
After booking in to our quite "posh" hotel and with nothing else to do while it was still raining I headed for the bar while Lynne did the unpacking .............. I'd have only been in the way!
Only expecting to have one pint before Lynne came down, why these things take so long I don't know, I was part way down my second before she arrived.
It had stopped raining by now but it was still very cloudy and though very, very windy we decided to take a walk on the beach. To be honest there wasn't anything else to do but that's why I chose the place. We walked along the main street, the only street (you'll have to wait for pics of that), which runs straight onto the beach.

The Beach

Three rivers reach the sea near Ravenglass or would do if it weren't for a barrier of dunes with just one opening.
The Esk comes in from the south,
the way to the sea is opposite Ravenglass,

the Mite flows in just to the north of the village (right) and the Irt further north.

I don't remember what time this was, maybe 6 ish, but it certainly shouldn't have been this dark at whatever time it was.

The back of the houses on one side of THE street .
The Mite comes in under the railway bridge.
Our room is the fourth upper window from the left, first one in the taller building. The Pennington is across the street from the beach so we had the best view in the hotel.

The Honey Suckle from the grass above the beach and the street from the Honeysuckle.

Our hotel is the first white building on the left.

View from the Honeysuckle.

After a couple in the Honeysuckle it was back to the Pennington for a light meal, best pork and stuffing sandwiches I've had outside our house, another few drinks then bed.
